Jim Wilson : September 1945 - May 2003

Jim Wilson, founder of Virtual Promote and later the network of sites commonly called Jim World has sadly passed. He died quietly and without pain on Tuesday May 6, 2003, following an 18 month battle with Congestive Heart Failure, and multiple strokes. He is survived by his loving wife Cathy and his son, Nick.

Jim spent untold hours dedicating himself to helping others. Those of you that are or have been a part of the VirtualPromote/Jimworld community know this all too well. This website is dedicated to his memory, and to his family. Throughout, you'll be able to learn more about the man that so desperately wanted everyone he came in contact with to succeed. Our staff members have each tried to put their thoughts down into words. We invite you to sign the Guestbook as well, and let Cathy and Nick know how you feel about Jim, and how he, or through him, his work, has touched your life.

On Sunday afternoon, June first, a large group of Jim Wilson's family and friends gathered for his memorial service. As Jim had requested, the service was held in a grove of oak trees in the canyon where he lived. Jim asked an informal service, with some of his favorite old hymns, and he had asked that everyone wear bright colors and that we celebrate his life. Jim loved this canyon, and the grove was a beautiful setting for the prayers and readings that were included in the service. There were woodpeckers, blue jays, hawks, and other birds coming and going, and that, too was very fitting, since he loved the birds so much. Several close friends and family members participated or spoke during the service, telling about their memories of Jim. We shared both tears and laughter as we remembered, celebrated, and mourned him.

Jim's Internet friends from all over the world were mentioned several times during the ceremony, and we know that many of you were there with us in spirit. Cathy was very touched by the many sincere tributes that were left on Jim's memorial web site, and they have been read over and over. She and Nick are also grateful for the donations that were made on-line for the family. The much-needed money will be used for some of NIck's college expenses next year. One of Jim's big regrets was that due to his illness he was not able to provide for college for NIck, so your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Jim had a great sense of humor, a joy in living, and a strong belief that life was precious and good. He showed a courage in his last weeks that was amazing, and we were blessed by having witnessed it. We are all fortunate that he shared his many gifts so freely with others, and we are very thankful for the time we shared with him.

Any financial assistance you can offer would be much appreciated. Jimworld has been operating with virtually no income for the last 15 months or so during Jim's extended illness. While we're making strides in generating some income through the Jimworld domains, the Wilsons have more immediate needs than the websites can currently help with. Any support you can offer them would be a big help. Thank You.
